A nutrition program, sponsored by the WIC Program, offers free nutritious foods. The food is distributed monthly to Strafford County participants from our Dover and Rochester locations. CSFP services are free of charge. Eligibility required.

Responsible for administering programs to provide financial and medical assistance to people in NH who are in need and meet eligibility requirements. Financial Assistance Programs: Old Age Assistance, Aid to Needy, Aid to the Blind, Aid to Permanently and Totally Disabled, Temporary Aid for Needy Families. Medical Assistance: Medicaid is designed to help persons with limited income obtain medical services. Food Stamps: Administers Food Stamp Program.

The Bureau of Elderly & Adult Services (BEAS) provides social and supportive services to elderly adult or persons living with disabilities/chronic illnesses. Some of the services available are: case
management, counseling, adult group day care, adult in-home care, home-delivered and congregate meals, homemaker's services, emergency support, transportation, and respite care. In addition,

Provides noon-time meals five days a week, Monday thru Friday for persons age 60 and over. Dining halls are presently located in Dover, Farmington, Rochester, and Somersworth. Home delivered meals and Meals On Wheels assists qualified seniors and disabled individuals who are unable to prepare meals for themselves.

UNH Cooperative Extension provides programs and resources for individuals, families, and youth in a variety of areas including: Family and Consumer Resources, Nutrition Connections, Life Skills for Employment, Achievement, and Purpose (LEAP), and 4-H Youth Development.

Family and Consumer Resources programs are in the areas of parenting, single parenting, stepfamilies, money management, media literacy, nutrition, and food safety; and reach parents, seniors, child care providers, consumers, and food service workers.

Nutrition Connections provides nutrition and fitness education for families and youth of limited resources through one-on-one and group settings.

LEAP provides family life skills education to those who receive Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) and are in the NH Employment Program.

4-H Youth Development helps facilitate community youth development projects and opportunities for youth to enhance their skills and abilities in a wide variety of interest areas.

In addition, UNH Cooperative Extension works in the areas of Agriculture Resources, Forestry Resources, Land and Water Conservation, Sea Grant, and Marine Resources.

Examples of programs of interest to seniors: programs that evolve around food safety; nutrition and fitness; and money management. Claudia Boozer-Blasco presents programs about "Food Safety on the Home Front" for seniors that are living in a residential community. Terri Schoppmeyer provides senior nutrition and fitness programs. A supplemental food program providing prescribed food vouchers for pregnant, breast feeding and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five. Nutritional and dietary evaluation, nutrition education, supplemental food vouchers, information and referral, and breast feeding support. The program is open to income eligible women and children with medical or nutritional risks. WIC services are free of charge.
