Services of AARP are insurance and discounts on drugs through National Chapter, information and referral sessions on health, nutrition, fire protection and prevention, social security and outings. Classes on 55 Alive / Mature Driving, to help senior drivers be safer on roads and to be better drivers. A program of Strafford County Head Start, Baby's Best Beginnings provides home visiting services to at-risk pregnant women through the first year of the child's life. The program serves participants living in the northern tier of Strafford County by providing comprehensive services responding to the individual needs of families. Our intent is to promote healthy pregnancies, birth outcomes, and child development by educating parents in the areas of health, safety, parenting, child development, and family planning. In addition, we hope to ensure that al1 necessary supports are in place so that families can provide a safe and nurturing environment.

Services provided include: Reliability reports issued to consumers in order that they make better buying decisions. A complaint resolution division handles consumer complaints that cannot be handled between the consumer and the business. Every effort should be made on the part of the consumer before we mediate. Pamphlets are available on most subjects such as insurance, working at home, buying a car, etc… Speakers are available for businesses, schools, etc. Binding arbitration is offered to both consumers and businesses. Referrals are made to hundreds of agencies in and out of the State andreferrals to 190 other BBB offices are also made when the consumer has a question or complaint regarding a business located in another state.

This program continues to educate the public (including people at risk) about how HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases are spread, and how people can protect themselves from becoming infected. To achieve this, a variety of services are used. They include: seminars and health education programs, public information campaigns that use the mass media to reach selected audiences state-wide, operation of the two hot lines.

Services offered include: Screening of all newborns for six potentially harmful disorders. Diagnosis and genetic counseling for families/children with concerns. Comprehensive assessment of development for 0-6 year old. Specialty clinics for children with disabilities or chronic illness which include amputation, cleft and lip palate, cystic fibrosis, spina bifida, cerebral palsy and heart problems. Care coordination and family support services. Financial assistance with cost of health care for certain medically needed families. Consultation regarding the special needs of health impaired children to schools, early intervention and other agencies upon request. Professional and public education.

A state funded program designed to provide financial assistance to individuals requiring extensive medical treatment for specific medical conditions. These medical conditions are cancer, Hemophilia, End State Renal Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Spinal Injuries.

 

THE CATCH PROGRAM (Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment for Children)

Serves children ages 4-12, accepts Medicaid and is a vendor for El Services. Has a central based clinic offering outpatient occupational speech and physical therapy and pediatric therapy services. Also offers speech/language pathology and occupational therapy. The program offers experienced pediatric therapists, home and center based therapy, and a pool for therapy. Programs include sensory integration therapy, neuro developmental therapy, and evaluations for therapeutic stimulation. Has a new satellite office opening in Hampton, NH.

Offering education programming:

Integrated Preschool and Kindergarten for typical and special needs children starting at age 3.

Elementary, pre-vocational and vocational educational programming through age 21 for children who have been determined to be developmentally and/or physically disabled. Occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, a swim program and job coaching are provided as part of the educational plan.

Program length: school calendar year and optional one month of summer school. As a cost effective, community based, client centered service, the center believes in developing the full potential of every child.

A Community Based Health Center serving the uninsured and underinsured who cannot afford health care. We provide family and primary health care, prenatal care, child health and immunizations, reproductive health care, women's health care and supporting social services with patient co-pays. We accept Medicaid, Medicare, Maine Medicaid and most insurances. Low cost or no cost prescriptions are available based on qualifications.

Shelter services for unwanted, lost or abused animals. Offers animals for adoption, humane education, and community outreach programs such as Visiting Companions and pet care information for owners. Provides cruelty investigations and pet tagging service, tracks lost and found animals reported to the shelter, and publishes a newsletter.

Located at 150 Wakefield Street at the Rochester Community Center. Offers clothing and household items to anyone. There are no geographical area limits. CCS is open September through June, Saturdays from 9am-3pm and Wednesdays 12pm-3pm; July and August, 9am-noon. Donations may be brought to 93 Charles Street, Rochester, and left beside the sliding glass doors.

The downtown recreation complex is located in Henry Law Park, consisting of Butterfield Gym & Indoor Pool. Ample parking is available at the rear of facility and is accessed from Henry Law Avenue. The gym has regulation basketball court; a boxing loft; 2 fully equipped exercise rooms, containing a Universal Conditioning machine, Olympic machines, treadmill, rowing machine, and exercycles; and teen center with various games. The Indoor Pool facility is comprised of regulation swimming pool; a separate diving pool; sauna & exercise equipment on deck. There are separate locker and shower facilities at both the Gym & Pool.

Guppey Park is located on Portland Avenue and features an Ice Arena; an Olympic 50- Meter (outdoor) pool; lighted softball fields; volleyball field; and picnic pavilion. Parking is located behind the Ice Arena and is accessed from Portland Avenue. Ice Arena is equipped with locker and shower facilities.

Programs offered to people of all ages, some of which are aerobics, basketball, soccer, volleyball, school vacation day camps, tennis, summer day camp, summer play ground/trips, baseball, special events, fitness activities; swimming, ice skating and others upon request. A Safe Place provides a confidential location for people who have been abused by their partners. Offers weekly support groups, referrals to lawyers, counselors and other human service providers. If you are not sure of your rights they also provide information and legal advocacy through the court process. Services are provided for all victims of domestic violence even if they are not staying at the shelter. A Safe Place provides outreach and education to community organizations, schools, church groups and businesses.

Hospice stresses quality of life and comfort care and offers practical as well as emotional and physical support. Patients are admitted to care regardless of ability to pay. Grief Support Groups, Educational Speakers, a specialized lending library and consultation are available to the community at large. Seacoast Hospice is NH's only independent, non-profit hospice. With offices in Dover and Exeter, the skilled and compassionate staff provides care to residents in Strafford and Rockingham counties. Open 7 days a week, 24-hours a day, taking abused & neglected children. Provides 24-hour care for children 1-11 years of age. Children are involved in recreational & many community activities. Tutoring & other social work services such as individual counseling also available. Children are placed by NH Division for Children and Families through the child protection system.

STRAFFORD COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT

An organization that provides guidance and technical assistance with planning design and installation of natural resource conservation projects to Strafford County residents, citizen groups, and local government. Offers soil erosion & sediment control, soil maps, soil potential index (SPI) ratings, water quality & quantity issues, conservation education, sale of conservation plants for erosion control and wildlife, aerial photo library, conservation easement acquisition and management.

To provide these services, the District works closely with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and cooperates with all Federal, State, County, Town and private agencies on a non-discriminatory basis.

Provides noon-time meals five days a week, Monday through Friday for persons 60 or over. Dining halls are presently located in Dover, Rochester and Somersworth. Home delivered meals and Meals on Wheels assists qualified seniors and disabled individuals who are unable to prepare meals for themselves.

Strafford Guidance Center offers comprehensive mental health treatment for people of all ages. This includes outpatient counseling, crisis care, intensive outpatient treatment for psychiatric or substance abuse problems, and short-term psychiatric inpatient care. Treatment is available for a wide range of mental health needs, including marital or personal relationship problems, adjustment difficulties, grieving and loss, family violence, and mental illness. Psychological evaluations and psychiatric services are also available for children, adults, and elders. Most insurances, including NH Medicaid, are accepted.

Organization dedicated to planning issues in the seacoast region. Member communities work with staff to deal with land use, zoning transportation, environmental, and other related issues. SRPC sponsors workshops and seminars and also has a library which can offer access to sample ordinances and regulations, current research reports, professional journals; reference books and videos, and planning publications.
